5 Easy Ways to Care for your Little Girl’s Hair

      Baby Flower Crown Headbands

When it comes to caring for their little girl’s hair, many parents aren’t sure if they are ‘doing it right.’ Below are 5 easy ways to care for your toddler daughter’s hair that will ensure that it looks and feels wonderfully soft and silky.

#1 – Don’t Wash her Hair Every Day

This may sound counterintuitive, but in most cases, your toddler daughter’s hair should only be washed every 2 – 3 days, as this will prevent the hair and scalp from drying out too much. When washing her hair, apply a small amount of shampoo and gently massage it through her hair, using soft, circular motions. Always ensure that lukewarm water is used, as this will not only prevent her scalp from being scalded; it will also prevent her hair from being damaged. If there are any long pieces of hair, use 1 or 2 small snap baby girl hair clips to pin them out of her eyes until it is dry.

#2 – Dry and Style Carefully

When drying your toddler daughter’s hair, it should be done so as carefully as possible to prevent pulling and possible hair breakage. Using a soft cotton towel, pat the hair gently to remove as much water as possible – don’t rub it, as this could cause some of the hair to fall out – not to mention be extremely uncomfortable as well. Although it is not always recommended to use hair dryers on toddlers’ hair, it may sometimes be necessary. Always use the coolest possible setting to prevent scalding, and use a soft brush to style it afterwards.

#3 – Avoid Excessive Use of Chemical Hair Care Products

Many parents make the mistake of trying to mimic adult hairstyles on their toddler daughters. However, if this involves the use of numerous styling gels and other chemical-based products, they could end up damaging the hair and causing scalp irritation as well. In most cases, all that will be needed to make your daughter’s hair look as cute as possible is a gentle brush and the use of one or two accessories such as a heart-embellished baby girl headband or some cute baby girl hair clips. Black Tutu

#4 – Use Dedicated Little Girl Hair Accessories

Although there are many funky hair accessories on the market for older girls, these are not normally suitable for use in toddler girls’ hair because they have been designed to hold or control larger volumes of hair than what most toddlers have. Instead, opt for dedicated baby girl headband accessories or even a few sparkly baby girl hair clips. These are smaller than other accessories, which mean that they will stay in the hair and not be uncomfortable at all.

      #5 – Use a Child-friendly Hair Salon

Eventually, the time will come when your daughter’s hair needs to be trimmed. Many toddlers are somewhat apprehensive when it comes to visiting the salon for the first time, so it is a good idea to prepare them beforehand by letting them know what will happen there. Offering her an such as new baby headbands or baby girl hair clips in exchange for ‘being a good girl’ can help ensure that she looks forward to her next salon visit.

Long Branch Fest is on today and we're open!

I'm just getting ready for the Long Branch Fest which is a festival that is put on by the Long Branch BIA, of which I have been on the Board of Directors for the past two years.  I was the chair of the committee that launched their new logo, website, insta and facebook page and I had to resign my post just two weeks ago as part of the move. :(  I was sad to do this because I didn't get to see what we can do with this hood in the next five years but I will be watching from my new home and looking forward to updates! longbranchbia   This neighborhood has so much to offer, I was proud to help bring some visibility and sense of community to the area. The festivities today will include bouncy castles, facepainting, food specials and buskers entertainment.  Hope you can make it!  Baby Wisp was the only baby boutique in the area and I had tonnes of customers (lots of new families here) come regularly to visit and chat.  I will miss having this store but I hope to see many of you TODAY!!!!  My kids will be outside with their lemonade stand as we are showing the ropes about running a business.   They spent their allowance on the supplies.  Yup, $30 in lemons and cups!!!! hahaha!!!  So, please help them break even at least. :)   From 12-6 TODAY our customers can come grab all deals that we are launching for the next 6 weeks at once (as we shut down operations in Toronto).  Deal 2 are some crazy $5 deals here, 25% off piggy paint, and a newly updated clearance section. Evening Hairstyle Ideas for Little Girls

      Points to Consider

Before choosing an evening hairstyle for a little girl, it’s important to take into consideration the amount of hair she has, whether it is thin or thick and if she is old enough (or willing) to keep any accessories like glitter bows or glitter hair clips in for the duration of the evening. When it comes to little girls who are between the ages of 3 and 5 years, it is normally best to stick with styles that are as simple as possible. This will ensure that washing and styling their hair doesn’t take longer than a few minutes at the most.

      Short or Long Bobs

These are one of the easiest hairstyles to maintain on little girls in the 3 to 5 year age bracket, and including a few pretty accessories like a heart-embellished headband or a few velvet and glitter-covered snap clips will help keep any stray fringe or other hair firmly and comfortably in place. Another option that can help add a glamorous touch to this evening hairstyle is small snap clips that have been decorated with sequined stars. Each of these options will help keep the hair in place without it being uncomfortable or tight in any way.

      Short Pixie Cut

In most cases, parents of little girls aged 3 to 5 are looking for styles that are relatively simple, but still cute and elegant. Opting for the short pixie cut will ensure that there are no tears when the time comes to styling and/or placing any round glitter bows velvet and glitter ribbon snappy clips in the hair to keep the fringe out of the eyes.  Even though this design is generally short all around, a cute triple heart headband can be inserted to add just the right finishing touch.

      Side Sweep of Curls

Although many little girls in this age bracket have absolutely beautiful curls, these can be somewhat challenging to style at any time – let alone for an evening event. However, simply brushing the hair, sweeping it all to one side of the head and securing it in place with a few pretty glitter hair accessories such as tuxedo glitter bow pinch clips. These will keep the hair to the side and another clip can be used to ensure that no hair falls into the eyes.

When trying to choose an evening hairstyle idea for a little girl between 3 and 5 years of age, it is important to remember that she will already have a few preferences of her own, which should be taken into account as well. If she doesn’t enjoy dressing up too much, it will be best to stick with styles that are simpler and that will require the use of as few hair accessories as possible.
